- Inspire Futures

Many pupils at Birchwood PRU are with us for just a few weeks or months, but even a short experience or conversation can make a lasting impact.

We are looking for local employers and former pupils (alumni) to help raise aspirations and introduce pupils to real-world careers.

Ways You Can Support

  • Career Talks – Share your journey or industry insights

  • Workshops – Lead practical, hands-on sessions

  • Workplace Visits or Placements – Offer short experiences of the working world

  • Pathways Discussions – Talk about routes like apprenticeships or training

  • Mock Interviews & CV Support – Help pupils prepare for future opportunities

  • Mentoring – Provide short-term guidance and encouragement

  • Challenge Barriers – Support pupils and tackle stereotypes

  • Alumni Stories – Inspire pupils with your post-Birchwood journey

Why Get Involved

  • Make a real difference in a young person’s life

  • Support local talent and re-engagement with education

  • Develop your team’s mentoring and communication skills

  • Strengthen your organisation’s community impact

To get involved, please contact our Careers Leader, Emma Rouse. Remember, even a short conversation can help a pupil see a new possibility. That’s the power of employer and alumni engagement in a PRU setting. Birchwood would love to work collaboratively with you and give our students information on the career opportunities available to them in Folkestone and the wider Kent area.

Please email office@birchwoodpru.kent.sch.uk to have an initial conversation on how we can work together.

Resources to Support Employers/Alumni

Information to equip parents/carers with knowledge and information to be able to guide and advise your child towards the best opportunity for them; this could include many options including apprenticeships, T Levels and HTQs.

David Chalcroft is now working with Birchwood as an Enterprise Advisor.

Birchwood is very lucky to have this support as David has extensive experience working with apprentices and managing young people at the start of their careers.  David has also worked with a wide number of employers and schools and supported links between students and employment.
